Technische Universität Dresden (TUD), as a University of Excellence, is one of the leading and most
dynamic research institutions in the country. Founded in 1828, today it is a globally oriented,
regionally anchored top university, developing innovative solutions for the world's most pressing
issues. In research and academic programs, the university unites the natural and engineering sciences
with the humanities, social sciences and medicine. This wide range of disciplines is a special feature,
facilitating interdisciplinarity and transfer of science to society. As a modern employer, it offers
attractive working conditions to all employees in teaching, research, technology and administration.
The goal is to promote and develop their individual abilities while empowering everyone to reach their
full potential. TUD embodies a university culture that is characterized by cosmopolitanism, mutual
appreciation, thriving innovation and active participation. For TUD diversity is an essential feature and
a quality criterion of an excellent university. Accordingly, we welcome all applicants who would like to
commit themselves, their achievements and productivity to the success of the whole institution.
At the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, Institute of Classical Philology, the
Chair (W2) of Classical Philology/Latin
(with tenure track to W3)
is to be filled for a period of six years as of April 1, 2024. After five years at the latest, a cross-Faculty
and cross-School commission will conduct a tenure evaluation. If the evaluation is positive, you will
be appointed to a permanent Chair (W3) of Classical Philology/Latin. The evaluation criteria will be
mutually agreed upon when the position is accepted and will form the basis of the evaluation
procedure. These will cover the categories of academic teaching, research, knowledge transfer and
academic self-administration.
The chair should represent the subject in its full breadth in research and teaching. You (m/f/x) will
represent Latin Studies in the teacher training-related study programs as well as in the BA and MA
programs of the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies, and in the interdisciplinary MA
program in Ancient Cultures. In this way, you will make a meaningful contribution to a teaching
program that is as relevant as it is varied. In addition to research foci in the study of classical literature
and culture, we expect you to be a committed participant in interdisciplinary collaborations within the
Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and Cultural Studies and the Department of Ancient Studies at TUD,
especially at the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, to make a substantial contribution to the
development of joint research projects in the Emerging Field of “Societal Change“, for example in the
“TU Disruption and Societal Change Center“ (TUDiSC) as well as in the context of the Science and
Innovation Campus DRESDEN-concept. Your active participation at the Institute of Classical Philology,
at the Faculty of Language, Literature and Cultural Studies, as well as at the School of Humanities and
Social Sciences is required. This includes the ongoing development of the degree programs. Your
willingness to engage in academic self-administration is a prerequisite.
A focus in the area of digital classics and your willingness to get involved in corresponding activities at
TUD will be advantageous. Experience in the acquisition of third-party funding is equally desirable as
experience in matters of internationalization, such as stays abroad. Applicants must fulfill the
appointment requirements of § 59 of the Institutions of Higher Education Act in the Free State of
Saxony (SächsHSG).
If you have any further questions, please contact the Dean of the Faculty of Linguistics, Literature and
Cultural Studies and Chair of the appointment committee, Prof. Dr. Christian Prunitsch, tel. +49 351
